Sustainability

SPAČVA d.d. has recognized and implemented corporate social responsibility (CSR) as one of the key factors of sustainable development, through the promotion of responsible practices of good and transparent management and promotion of interests of various stakeholders on the path towards quality and sustainable development.

This business practice is based on the principle of balanced accounting of one’s own economic, social, and environmental impact and investment in human resources.

Our relationships with partners, suppliers, and consumers have been built over many years, through quality products as well as mutual trust and fair relations. The practice of truth in advertising of our products has been incorporated into our marketing communication.

We are oriented towards the growth and development of the individual’s potential and skills because we view human resources as employees who hold value for the company. Investing in potentials is more cost-effective than investing in any other resource. In that spirit, SPAČVA d.d. provides various in-house training courses for workers, foreign language courses, and pre-service training for work in wood treatment and processing.

For example, all students of the Carpentry High School who have attended practical training classes at SPAČVA d.d. and excelled in their efforts and engagement receive employment in the company upon graduation. For the second year in a row, SPAČVA d.d. has awarded a scholarship to a Faculty of Forestry student with the aim of starting a working relationship with the student after her graduation.

We have a long-standing practice of concluding contracts of indefinite duration with all our employees. On the one hand, this serves to formally establish the equality of all workers in terms of their employment status, and on the other hand, such practice contributes to the development of a sense of security and stability and enables employees to focus solely on their work tasks and commitments.

Driven by our striving to form even stronger connections between the academic and business community, we foster our long-lasting practice of cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and the Croatian Employers’ Association. We also enable students of the Faculty of Economics in Osijek to receive their practical training at our company.

Our employees receive notifications about all relevant company developments, events, and information not only via company bulletin boards but also through the E-News SPAČVA d.d. Facebook page.

In order to improve communication, the company has designed “mailboxes for small ideas” and placed them in each facility to enable every employee to submit their praises, remarks, and criticisms.

In addition, in order to improve employee behavior and work performance and enhance internal communication, the company has introduced a work performance management process that ultimately benefits both the employer and the employees. The process enables employees to form a clearer picture about the importance of their contribution to the company, gain exact understanding of their work goals and the level of their accomplishment, and receive timely information on what needs to be done in order to further improve results, ensuring a better two-way communication between workers and their line managers.

SPAČVA d.d. holds annual gatherings and lunches for all company employees.

Regarding the field of environmental protection, SPAČVA d.d. takes a multi-faceted approach to such issues. We implement technical measures to systematically monitor and reduce the company’s environmental impact by measuring emissions from stationary sources and performing air quality measurement. In terms of energy consumption reduction measures, we have been investing in energy-efficient machines and equipment. Regarding waste reduction measures, the company promotes waste sorting and waste management as measures to reduce the impact on the environment. We also implement systematic water monitoring and control. This year, we have invested in the reconstruction of the sewage system, which will ultimately lead to improved wastewater quality.

For all of the reasons listed above, instead of regarding corporate social responsibility as an outlay, we see it as an investment in the future.
